When she dances, her power extends over the nightclub\u2019s audience\u2014drunks, musicians, gangsters, and onlookers\u2014which shifts, from chaos to joy, with every transition she makes between tempos and traditions. Backstage, however, Violeta lives under the thumb of the violent and possessive Rodolfo\u2014as do scores of local sex workers and dancers. When a&nbsp;newborn that Rodolfo claims isn\u2019t his is abandoned, Violeta sacrifices her status and sets into motion a&nbsp;generational tale that mixes melodrama, amped-up noir lighting, and dancefloor storytelling that anticipates the intensified montage of Bob Fosse. Director Emilio Fern\u00e1ndez, already a&nbsp;Palme d\u2019Or winner (1944\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Mar\u00eda Candelaria<\/em>), together with cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa, turn the film\u2019s cabaret confines into a&nbsp;dynamic space for sweeping camera moves. As a&nbsp;classic example of the cine de rumberas genre,&nbsp;<em>Victims of Sin<\/em>&nbsp;is a&nbsp;jolting rediscovery, mixing high-level craft and underworld action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f43dce561b8077acaf172dd26e2fb61b\">Sobre el escenario, Violeta (Nin\u00f3n Sevilla) es la estrella del Cabaret Chang\u00f3. Cuando baila, su poder se extiende sobre el p\u00fablico de la discoteca -pandilleros, m\u00fasicos, g\u00e1ngsters y curiosos-, que pasa del caos a la alegr\u00eda con cada transici\u00f3n que ella hace entre tempos y tradiciones. Entre bastidores, sin embargo, Violeta vive bajo el dominio del violento y posesivo Rodolfo, al igual que decenas de trabajadoras del sexo y bailarinas locales. Cuando un reci\u00e9n nacido que Rodolfo dice que no es suyo es abandonado, Violeta sacrifica su estatus y pone en marcha una historia generacional que mezcla melodrama, iluminaci\u00f3n de cine negro y una narraci\u00f3n en la pista de baile que anticipa el montaje intensificado de Bob Fosse.
